Media educationin the family
Cigánková, Klára ; Wolák, Radim (advisor) ; Šťastná, Lucie (referee)
The master thesis "Media education in the family" discusses media education strategies of parents, or, in other words, parental mediation. This discussion is important because the family, in addition to the school system, is largely responsible for influencing the media literacy of children. The theoretical section of this thesis sums up how this topic was processed in foreign and Czech studies, and describes the main characteristics of parental mediation. Media education strategies of parents are also assessed in connection with the socialization of the child, and with the education and communication styles in family. Frequently, studies describe three types of parental mediation, which are: active mediation, restrictive mediation and social co-viewing. Although these types of mediation were defined mostly in connection with the viewing of television programs, it is possible to transfer these types, with small changes, on to other media, including the internet. The practical part of this thesis contains a qualitative analysis of in-depth interviews with parents who have children between the ages of 12 and 15. The goal of this analysis was to find out what parents think of the relationship between children and media, which strategies of parental mediation they are using, and which conditions and...

Title: Children as propagators of media literacy in the family Type of thesis: Bachelor thesis Author: Aneta Říhová, B.A. Supervisor: Radim Wolák, M.A. The bachelor thesis deals with the spreading of media literacy in families. Concretely, attention is paid to the relation between the media education, which is established into the school curriculum and whether the scholars of primary schools in connection with completed lessons become, or at least can become propagators of media literacy. Today is media literacy achievement mostly associated with the school media education. But it is the family environment, where the children's relationship with the media is established from early childhood. The actual effect of children on the propagation of media literacy in families has not yet received significant attention. In the theoretical part of the thesis are presented the initial concepts and realised research is included in the wider context of media education in families. The empirical part of the thesis presents the results of the research, which was based on four semi-structured interviews in two families - separately parent and a child attending upper primary school or an equivalent year of grammar school. The work does not aim to produce generalizable results, but attempts to draw attention to...

This diploma thesis deals with the ethical aspect of parental mediation and children's privacy on the internet. The aim of the work is to, using a qualitative research, assess how Czech parents perceive the privacy of their children on the internet, what ethical boundaries their media- educational approach has and what moral dilemmas they may possibly face. Furthermore, what Czech parents think of technical restrictions in the form of apps, software, locks and covert monitoring of the child. For data collection, the author chose in-depth interviews with parents of children aged 9-17. The work is divided into theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part engages in placing parental mediation in a broader context, and discusses in detail styles of parental mediation, with emphasis on the restrictive approach, its technical tools and covert monitoring. The master thesis "Parents and marketing forms targeted at children: awareness, attitudes and educational approaches" describes marketing and advertisement methods that aims towards children and also parental perception of these methods. The children's segment is quite popular in the marketing industry, mainly because young consumption behaviour is easily affected. Parents play a big role in influencing children's perception, which is why I chose to focus on parents as well. Parents need to know about these advertisement and marketing's forms if they want to influence their children in a correct way. The theoretical part of the thesis describes characteristics of media education in the family, marketing forms aimed on children, approaches and strategies of parents in media education and also the reaction of children to the given advertising forms. The practical part discusses the description of the chosen research technique, namely qualitative research consisting of semi-structured in-depth interviews. The aim of these in-depth interviews was to find out the level of orientation of preschool children in the child-targeted marketing forms. The goal was to establish their attitudes towards these advertising forms and describe how they approach this area in the education of their children. Negative...

Bláhová, Barbora ; Slavíček, Daniel (advisor) ; Charvát, Martin (referee)
My diploma thesis deals with the phenomenon of the internet and parents' supervision, particularly how parents supervise their children who are the active users of the Internet. This paper is divided into a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part is further divided into two sections - one that looks at supervision and mediating strategies and other one that analyses the internet. Both those theoretical chapters explore their subjects with relation to children as the agents. The practical part of my dissertation is a qualitative research in form of interviews, which helps to understand the phenomenon from the parents' position.

Veličková, Markéta ; Baslarová, Iva (advisor) ; Vochocová, Lenka (referee)
A media policy on maternity leave is the subject matter of the thesis, which presents the results of a qualitative research of an audience by the grounded theory method. The analysis of various causes, conditions, contexts, strategies and consequences of media policies of individual speakers is based on the use of semi-structured interviews. The media usage on maternity leave is a complex of attitudes not only of the mother but also of the father who can be in agreement with his partner in one household but in conflict in another household. Influences of parents childhood or of the nearest neighborhood is continuously reflected in individual strategies of the media policy. A professional status of the mother and her needs offered by the media also plays a significant role. Last but not least, there is a conflict between mothers` own comfort when the media take over the role of a nanny and are a vital member of the household, and a childcare when the mother more or less regulates the role of the media in the early years of a child's life on the basis of her own experience, in other words to a reasonable degree.
